Op-Ed: Love the Police or FTP?
Op-Ed: Love the Police or FTP?

Disclaimer: I respect everyone. My favorite Uncle is a career Homicide Detective. One of my best friends is a former officer. I know and have worked with some good people in Law Enforcement through helping bring missing people home. So understand, off bat, that I DO understand their are some AMAZING men/women who risk their LIVES to keep us safe. I appreciate you, but too often that has to be said now days before your constructively and factually criticize ANYTHING. Yet, here we are. I am not asking you to love or hate them, think for yourself. No matter which way though violence is never ever the answer and gets you anywhere.
On ALL SIDES

It is constantly being said by MANY pundit's of ALL sides about the "new rise" of police hatred. Pardon me for being frank, but they are full of shit.
The "dislike" for police has been around since the Norman Rockwell days went away and "Peace Officers" became "Law Enforcement". There is no ONE finger to point if any at all, but the new culture is not FTP but the MEDIA making it the op of the headlines EVERY DAY.
For example, have you ever went to a concert, show? Maybe ran into some place real quick and a cop comes and gives you a ticket? Your not so fond of officers that day. One may argue if it was the persons fault or not, but we will save that for another day.
Cops in a lot of the public's eyes falls into a few categories (outside the main issues that are disgusted everyday) depending on many factors, again, for another article.

1. Nuance
Most don't necessary "hate" cops, it's just that usually when they are around, things tighten up. Some people just do not like being told what to do, where to go, etc.

2. Bully's

Many reasons for this. Usually the manner cops talk to people or approach them other than human beings. Let's face it some cops have the badge on like it's a Power ring to summon their super powers, just a view.
3. Instigator/Interference
Personally, covering stories where I have witnessed some security & cops being rude for no reason and actually escalate situations.
The Greatest on Earth or the most EVIL in the World... the categories can go on and on.

My issue is the narrative and message many media people are trying to shove "this is new" logo.
This is at best false.
Nothing New Under The Sun
Let us go back...
Way back...
Los Angels, California is definitely what most would consider one of the "meccas" for Gangster Rap and Hip Hip. It is also home to battling years of being a murder and crime area. NWA came out with this track in 1988. There was a lot of crime going on in the neighborhoods of L.A., Bay Area, Oakland, San Diego and more. A lot later found out being carried out by Law Enforcement.
In 1990, Hip Hop composer, Ernie C started pounding out the track "Cop Killer" written by ICE-T that ended up being a top hit on his album "Body Count". This was mostly due to the violence he had witnessed throughout his life but mostly in response to then President George H.W. Bush & Vice President Dan Quayle new "War On Drugs" which to this day is still going on with no results except tearing apart communities, families, taking money, etc.
Living in the streets is never easy, but Cleveland, Ohio has not then, nor now ever been easy for especially minorities to thrive. Bone Thugs hit the studio to get there aggression out and reach the people who often enough get ignored, yet are forced to take blame. (This is not a blanket statement for everyone). After many loses of friends and family, personal harassment and issues Bone Thugs N Harmony had with Law Enforcement bough on this track to the "Creeping on a Come Up" Album.
Oh yes, it's not just "blacks" that have issues with police either. Bruce Springsteen, arguably one of America's Greatest, even had his irritation and thoughts on the Police.
(Personal Favorite)
KRS-One is without a doubt one of the juggernauts when it comes to knowledge and pioneering the battle house rap genre of the early 90's. Now days, KRS-One is speaking all over the world dropping knowledge. He even has cops and CIA coming up to him singing the song.

Fast forward to the 2000s, here is a brief list of the songs I could grab to display my point. In no way are we supporting or denouncing any of these artist or their music just showing you. You have a brain come to your own conclusions.

Some will say, "Society has changed", some will say the Police changed, all I know is there was a change. You can not bank on media, mainstream or independent to much anymore. Instead of encouraging you to pick a side, I encourage you to use YOUR life, YOUR head and come to your conclusion. Yes cops have a job to do, and the first one is being a human being. Not only are you there to serve and protect, but guide.
Direct bit of advice: I am willing to bet it the public had some sort of confidence that every cop will be held accountable for their actions and actually get justice, we may receive you better. One of the biggest issues I have thought of is that good 'ol word no one likes to have...ACCOUNTABILITY.
If your partner is shooting people unlawfully, doing improper things and you stay silent, to me you are just as guilty. If the reason is repercussions and hate then what is REALLY the mission? Why do you have an Oath and who the hell is running these places training you?
See "Accessory to a Crime" in Oxford Dictionary & Black's Law Dictionary
Society cops are just like you. You want to get home from work and no matter how much someone gets mad, your first thought is, even if you do not say it, usually is "I'm just doing my job." If the officer is doing his/her job then what is wrong with you?
Everyone has there own experiences and reason depending on many factors. Go on those and not this click bait bs of "this is new". There is nothing new under the sun...NOTHING.
War and violence solves nothing on EITHER side. Some of the biggest threats and conflicts have been hashed out between two responsible parties. I am not saying all but a big enough amount. From the headlines to your personal life. Know your RIGHTS. Don't fight for "civil" fight for FULL RIGHTS. Stand your ground, just use your head.
All parties.
